Welcome to Boyne Island Family Medical Centre. We are a fully accredited practice, owned and operated by friendly, local practitioners. We deliver quality, affordable and reliable health care all under the one roof. Our doctors are caring and professional and have many years of experience, so you can feel assured knowing that you that you are in the hands of experienced medical professionals. 
At Boyne Island Family Medical centre, we offer a range of services for you and your family. These include:
  • Medical examinations, including pre-employment, recreational diving, insurance, driver’s licence and others
  • Pregnancy tests, routine pap smears and family planning
  • Prenatal and postnatal care
  • Vaccinations including childhood vaccinations, flu vaccinations and travel vaccinations (we do not provide Yellow Fever and Japanese Encephalitis vaccines)

  • Minor surgery and excisions
  • Cryotherapy (freezing of certain skin lesions)
  • Wound care
  • Health Assessments and Care Plans
  • Spirometry (Lung Function)
  • Pathology service and physiotherapy in close proximity

New Patients

For all new patients, if it is possible, please print and fill out our New Patient Health Summary. Please bring it with you to your first appointment, along with your Medicare card. 

Change of Personal Contact Details

Please notify us at the reception if you have recently changed your address or phone number, as it is very important that we have your up to date contact details. 

Appointments

At Boyne Island Family Medical Centre, we run on an appointment system, making exceptions for emergency situations. If you have a condition which you believe will require a longer consultation with our doctors, please discuss this with the receptionist when you make your appointment. You can book your appointment with us online. We see patients in order of their urgency. Emergencies are given priority, then appointments, then people without appointments.

Fees and Bulk Billing

We bulk bill all eligible Medicare services if you have a current Medicare card

If you do not have a Medicare card, then a private fee will be charged at the time of consultation. Please note that if you are coming with your entire family, it will still be necessary to make individual appointments for each member. 

Reminder System

We are committed to preventative care. At times, we may issue you with reminder notices offering you the various preventative health services that are appropriate to you and your care.

If you don’t want to be a part of this system, then you can opt out at the reception. 

Accreditation

We are a fully accredited practice. This means that we will be guided by the highest practice standards making sure that we are able to provide you with the best level of care possible. To maintain our accreditation, we may ask you to complete feedback surveys from time to time. Please note that participation in this survey is completely optional. 

Privacy and Confidentiality

Our practice adheres to the provisions of the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000. It is the policy of our practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff. 

If you would like further information about our information handling procedures, please talk to our doctors or the receptionist when you come and see us. 

Availability of Doctors by Telephone

Our doctors can be contacted during normal surgery hours. However, most queries are best dealt with during a consultation on-site. Email is available but not recommended for personal details.

If it is necessary and appropriate, then our doctors are able to contact you to discuss your query by telephone. If one of our doctors is with a patient, then a message will be taken and you will be advised by the reception staff when it is likely that the doctor will return your call. Your call will always be put through to the doctor in an emergency. 

After Hours & Home Visits

Home visits are available for regular patients whose condition prevents them from coming to the surgery. To make an appointment, please contact the reception.

After hours care and home visits are available to existing patients, simply ring the surgery on 4973 7717 to organise.

Your Rights

If you have a problem, then we would like to hear about it. Feel free to talk to your doctor, the practice manager or the receptionist. You can also write to us or use our suggestion box. 

We take all of your concerns, suggestions and complaints very seriously. However, if you believe that you need to take the matter further, or feel that you need to discuss the matter outside of the surgery, please contact the Office of the Heath Ombudsman.
